Hall, Hendrickson and Kosoff Now in PCGS CoinFacts™ Coin Dealer Hall of Fame

(Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) — The PCGS CoinFacts™ Coin Dealer Hall of Fame has inducted three more renowned members: David Hall, Leon Hendrickson and the late Abe Kosoff.  There are now 12 members enshrined since the honor was established in 2010 by the Professional Coin Grading Service (www.PCGS.com).

“The Hall of Fame was created to recognize outstanding dealers, past and present, who have made the most significant contributions to numismatics and who have handled great coins and great collections,” said PCGS President Don Willis.

The announcement of the latest Hall of Fame inductees was made at the PCGS Set Registry™ luncheon held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association (ANA) World’s Fair of Money in Philadelphia on August 10, 2012.

Described as one of the most influential personalities in the collectibles market, David Hall is best known as a Co-Founder of PCGS in 1986 and a developer of the set registry concept.  He is President of Santa Ana, California-based Collectors Universe, Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT), the parent company of PCGS.

Leon Hendrickson became a full-time coin dealer in 1967 when he established SilverTowne in Winchester, Indiana.  Since then he has perhaps sold more coins by dollar volume than any dealer in history, including items from the legendary Continental Illinois Bank hoard of Morgan dollars and the LaVere Redfield silver dollars hoard in Nevada.  Hendrickson is a former President of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) and was named Numismatist of the Year by the ANA in 2008.  The Hall of Fame award was accepted by his son, Dave, on his behalf at the PCGS Set Registry luncheon.

Abraham “Abe” Kosoff (1912 – 1983) of Palm Springs, California was one of the most influential coin dealers of the 20th century and was described by another esteemed Hall of Fame member, Q. David Bowers, as the “Dean of Numismatics.”  Launching his distinguished career in New York City in September 1929, a month before the historic stock market crash, Kosoff  eventually became one of the biggest dealers and auctioneers of the mid-20th century.  He helped found the PNG and served as the organization’s first President in 1954.  His contributions to numismatics continue to influence the hobby and profession.

The 2012 Hall of Fame honorees were selected by a committee that included the three living Hall of Fame inductees, Q. David Bowers, John Love and Harvey Stack.  An informative archive about all 12 inductees into the PCGS CoinFacts Coin Dealer Hall of Fame can be found online at www.pcgs.com/pcgscoinfacts/CoinDealerHOF.html.
